Funding
The Novina lab is funded mostly by grants from the federal government, including the National Institutes of Health, the Department of Defense, and the National Science Foundation. However, it is more challenging than ever to secure support for our research from these sources. Therefore, we are also seeking funding from alternate sources such as foundations, sponsored research agreements with industrial partners, and venture firms seeking to commercialize inventions in our lab. Additionally, we are very grateful to individual donors who are interested in supporting research in the Novina Lab.
Venture Groups
A new company called Raqia Therapeutics has been formed by Dr. Novina which has options to several technologies being developed in the Novina Lab. Please contact Dr. Novina or Dr. Jane Amara ([email protected]), Associate Director of the Belfer Office for Dana-Farber Innovations for more information.
Individual donors
To donate to support research in the Novina lab, please contact Julianne Deluca ([email protected]), Novina Lab Grants Administrator or Andrea Hadfield ([email protected], Director, Corporate and Foundation Relations, Division of Development & the Jimmy Fund.
Thank you to our past funding partners and donors!

- Our work with Dr. Matt Kulke and Dr. Mark Kieran to develop autologous T cell-based therapy for patients with neuroendocrine tumors and diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma were recently supported by the Goldhirsh-Yellin Foundation; a family foundation committed to supporting education, cancer research, archaeology in Israel and advocacy on behalf of Jewish causes and the Jewish state and Curing Kids Cancer; a family foundation committed to finding cures for childhood cancers by funding innovative research and treatments (Our Thank You to Curing Kids Cancer).
- The Novina lab has been generously supported by the Cash Memorial Fund, which is committed to developing technologies that could have impact on multiple cancers.
- Dr. Novina’s Grant Administrator, Julianne DeLuca just completed the 2017 Pan-Mass Challenge (http://profile.pmc.org/JD0517). An excerpt from her PMC page is as follows: "At Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, I have the pleasure of working amongst the best Physicians and Scientists in the world. In my Department of Cancer Immunology & Virology, I am a grant manager for Dr. Carl Novina, a creative scientist who has shown great success at turning early stage data into larger programs supported by federal grants. He has devised a novel strategy to turn the immune system against cancers. Dr. Novina is currently working with my Mom’s Physician at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Dr. Matthew Kulke, to engineer the immune system to attack neuroendocrine tumors. With your help and support, I will donate all my PMC funds to Drs. Novina and Kulke in my Mom’s memory. My hope is that these funds will assist in the generation of preliminary data which will support larger federal grants to support the development of new therapies for neuroendocrine cancers. As Dr. Novina’s grant manager, I will be personally involved in the process of funding and administering the grants that start with this donation and could develop into a new therapy for neuroendocrine tumors."
